Independence Rock (965 miles west) — Independence Rock was one of the trail's best known and most anticipated landmarks. Many emigrants carved their names on the rock; many of these carvings are still visible today. The emigrants sometimes celebrated their arrival at this landmark with a dance. Devil's Gate, a gorge on the Sweetwater River.* All information and pictures are taken from Wikipedia.
